Idaho Government Pays for Piano Lessons

It all begins with an idea.

Does the State of Idaho actually pay for music lessons?

Well, the short answer is sometimes it does!  Here are a few ways that families in Idaho can get private music lessons covered for their kids.

Empowering Parents is a new program that provides state funding via ESA or micro grant funding for families to use towards educational classes for their children, regardless of what school they attend.  Families in lower income brackets are prioritized and there is a short application to be approved.  Classes that they cover have to be taken with one of their approved vendors off of the vendor list, but the funding is generous, $3000 per year!  This program seems like it would be such a blessing to so many families — For more information please see this link: https://withodyssey.com/empoweringparents

Tech Trep Academy is a tuition free school for homeschoolers that currently provides $1700 of funding per year to enrolled students to use on classes and curriculum.  Students enrolled in private music lessons can use their funding to get reimbursed for their piano lessons among other things.  While we have not personally been enrolled with our kids, we have heard great reviews!  Check them out here:  https://id.techtrepacademy.com/

Overature Learning is another homeschool umbrella organization that provides structure and support to homeschoolers, along with $1700 of funding to be used towards classes, which can include private lessons.  When our family participated in this program during our daughter’s middle school years, it was really great! We simply submitted a photo of the check or a screenshot of a Venmo payment made to our daughter’s dance or music teacher and the funds were automatically deposited in our bank account within a week!  Here is the link to find out more: https://www.overturelearning.com/

Snake River Opportunities High School is an amazing new school with lots of options for students to learn outside of a traditional brick and mortar setting.  They offer $1200 per year in funding that can be used towards elective courses for high school in addition to providing access for homeschoolers to use advanced opportunities funding from the state of Idaho totaling $4,125.00 over four years. The advanced opportunities funds can be used towards overload courses, dual credits, college credit-bearing examinations, work force training courses, and professional certification examinations.  Our daughter has been enrolled in this school for the past year and has loved it!  As parents we have appreciated the extra funds that have gone to cover her elective courses for PE and Music.  Check them out here: https://sites.google.com/snakeriver.org/snake-river-opportunity-high/home?authuser=0
